What is Slate-Lite?
We have developed a revolutionary process in which many paper-thin layers of stone can be obtained from solid blocks of stone.
The stone layers are not chipped off as with conventional stone slabs, but are removed using a resin.
Each of these slabs is unique and is produced by hand in over 12 processing steps.
The look and feel of the solid stone slab is retained.
Slate-Lite stone veneers are available in many different sizes, depending on the laying pattern and spatial effect you would like to achieve.
Our standard sizes are:
S // 30 x 60 cm /
23.62 x 11.81 in
(approx. 0.18 m² / 1,93 ft2) *)
M // 122 x 61 cm / 48 x 24 in (approx. 0.74 m² / 7,96 ft2)
L // 240 x 120 cm / 94.48 x 47.24 in (approx. 2.88 m² / 31 ft2)
XL // 280 x 120 cm / 110.23 x 47.24 in (approx. 3.36 m² / 36,16 ft2)
Due to the ease of processing, our stone veneers can of course also be cut to any desired special size with millimeter precision.
If you do not want to cut and customize the material yourself, you can also have your desired decor produced directly in our store to the millimetre or order a cut of the material via our workbox services.
If you require even larger formats, please simply contact us - many decors can be produced up to a length of 350 cm / 137,80 in !
*) The 30 x 60 cm / 23.62 x 11.81 in format is currently available in the Stick&GO! version with self-adhesive film in selected decors.
The slate decors from Slate-Lite impress with a rather smoother surface with different and constantly changing patterns and structures.
The limestone decors from Slate-Lite impress with a rather smoother surface with relatively homogeneous patterns and structures.
The myca decors from Slate-Lite have a somewhat rougher surface with predominantly homogeneous patterns and structures. One particularly eye-catching effect is the slight sheen of the material, which is created by the natural quartzite content in the stone.
The marble decors from Slate-Lite impress with their rough-split surface with different and constantly changing patterns and structures. Strong veins and elevations in the surface are a typical feature of cleft marble.
Note: The marble decors can sometimes be a few millimeters thicker than other decors.
The sandstone decors from Slate-Lite stand out due to their slightly rough, rather grainy surface with slight differences in height.
The ArtDecors Lite from Slate-Lite combine the advantages of our real stone veneers such as weight, processing and flexibility with extraordinary surfaces in a metal look.
Slate-Lite is the all-rounder among stone veneers:
This thin real stone veneer with a 100% natural stone surface is extremely robust thanks to its fiberglass backing and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Slate-Lite is extremely light and has a total thickness of only approx. 1.5 mm /
0.06 in
.
Use the stone veneers both indoors and outdoors for wall cladding, as a backsplash in your kitchen or as a veneer for your furniture. Even unusual living environments made of stone in wet areas such as bathrooms or showers are possible with Slate-Lite!
UltraThin eco+ is our 3D moldable stone veneer:
The 3D flexibility is achieved by using a cotton mat as a substrate. Nevertheless, UltraThin eco+ also has a 100% natural stone surface!
UltraThin eco+ is particularly environmentally friendly thanks to its CO2-saving transportation due to its light weight and low consumption of natural stone resources.
The natural mat on the back of UltraThin eco+ allows easy processing and opens up many new possibilities in interior design and furniture construction.
With UltraThin eco+ you can even master complex special shapes and difficult edge areas without any problems!
Another unique feature of UltraThin eco+ is its processing:
Despite the natural stone surface, you can even cut UltraThin eco+ to size with scissors or a cutter knife!
Translucent is our translucent stone veneer:
Like all stone veneers from Slate-Lite, our Translucent product range has a 100% natural stone surface with a low weight and an overall thickness of just approx. 1.5 mm / 0.06 in.
The special thing about Translucent:
The transparent backing material on the reverse of the stone sheet. This translucent backing creates unique lighting effects with a light source behind the stone sheet, so that extraordinary backlit objects can be created!
Depending on the type of light, different effects can be achieved: you can use cold, warm or even colored light to create your individual light object made of stone.
Let the world shine in a new light and discover how easily you can bring incredible eye-catchers into your home with backlit stone!
Our Artdecors Lite product range comprises stone veneers that have been coated with a final high-quality finish using metal paints.
All material properties such as the low overall weight or the easy processing of the material are retained.
Artdecor Lite is suitable for a wide range of interior applications such as modern wall design and unusual furniture construction.
Slate-Lite Stoneboards are a more stable and slightly thicker version of our translucent translucent decors.
Due to the thicker overall thickness of approx. 3-4 mm / 0.12-0.16 in , you can generally dispense with additional bonding to acrylic glass.
Due to their size and properties, Stoneboards are ideal as back walls, counters and other light objects.
Our thin stone veneers generally have the following thicknesses:
Slate-Lite: approx. 1 - 3 mm / 0.04 - 0.12 in
UltraThin eco+: approx. 0.5 - 0.9 mm / 0.02 - 0.04 in
Translucent: approx. 1 - 3 mm / 0.04 - 0.12 in
Please note that slight variations in thickness are sometimes possible due to the natural stone surface.
Our real stone veneers can be bent gently due to their low thickness.
The bendable radius varies depending on the series selected:
Slate-Lite can be bent approx. 5 cm / 1.96 in and Translucent 10 cm / 3.93 in.
UltraThin eco+ can be bent to some extent in 3D due to its cotton backing.
The headquarters of Slate-Lite and our main warehouse are located in Rheinbach/Germany.
This is where the product was developed and where the entire business process takes place.
Our thin stone veneers are produced in India.
Naturally, we take great care to ensure good working conditions and compliance with safety regulations in our production facilities. The health of our employees is particularly important to us:
All employees in our factories must wear appropriate protective clothing - depending on the work process, this includes face masks, ear protection, safety goggles, gloves and safety shoes.
The processing of natural stone normally results in a high level of fine dust pollution.
However, thanks to Slate-Lite's innovative production method, this can be drastically reduced: As the solid blocks of slate are not chiseled or split during the production of Slate-Lite, but are stripped in layers, there is no fine dust pollution for our employees during this work step.
The process steps of sawing and grinding the slate blocks are carried out in our factories in conjunction with water and any dust that occurs is therefore directly bound. The risk of health hazards from silicosis, also known as stone dust lung, is therefore eliminated during the Slate-Lite production process!
Thanks to their lightness and thinness, our paper-thin stone veneers are not only easy to work with and offer unique possibilities for indoor and outdoor use, with Slate-Lite you are also opting for environmentally friendly stone decoration!
The emission rates during transportation are many times lower with Slate-Lite than with conventional stone slabs, which results in a significantly more positive ecological balance.
The majority of our goods are shipped by sea to our central warehouse. With pollutant emissions of approx. 15.1 grams of CO2 per kilometer (source: NABU), this results in the following example calculation for one of our containers:
(comparative calculation: sea route India/Germany. Granite slab vs. Slate lite)
Transport route | Material quantity (m²) | Load (kg)
Slate-Lite | Sea container 40' | 10.637 m² | 26.500 kg |
Granite slab (2 cm) | Sea container 40' | 441 m² | 26.500 kg |
Distance (km) | CO2-emissions (g) | CO2-emissions / m²
Slate-Lite | 7.500 km | 3.001.125,00 | 282,12 g |
Granite slab (2 cm) | 7.500 km | 3.001.125,00 | 6.806,27 g |
A sheet of Slate-Lite therefore produces approx. 95% less CO2 than a conventional thick stone slab during transportation!
In addition, the manufacturing process we have developed also conserves natural resources in the quarries: From the stone material of a single conventional stone slab of 2 cm / 0.78 in, we obtain 200 - 300 slabs of Slate-Lite, depending on the decor!
Of course, we are also focusing more and more on recyclable solutions for our packaging, which has enabled us to reduce the amount of plastic waste many times over in recent years. And of course we will continue to work on this in the future!
Slate-Lite is harmless to health!
Slate-Lite meets the highest quality requirements, also in terms of health.
Best example: Our recent VOC emission test was passed with flying colors (result class A+).
High VOC values are a health concern: unpleasant odors, irritation and symptoms in humans that cannot be directly attributed to an illness are possible consequences for personal health.
We tested the slate veneer "Falling Leaves" as an example - due to the extremely low emissions measured, the test institute was even able to terminate the test chamber test prematurely.
Slate-Lite can be cleaned with all commercially available, non-corrosive household cleaners.
In most cases, clear water and a lint-free cloth or brush will suffice.
In outdoor areas, cleaning with a high-pressure cleaner is also possible, but please observe the distance recommended by the appliance manufacturer when using it.
Our prices depend on the respective stone type and size of the decor.
You can find all prices conveniently and clearly arranged directly under your desired decor in our online store.

Application areas
You can use Slate-Lite in wet areas such as showers and bathrooms without any problems.
Please only note that a protective sealant is recommended for the material to ensure durability and easy cleaning.
As with any other wall covering, the substrate of the surface to be finished must also be sealed in accordance with applicable DIN standards.
In principle, all decors are suitable for showers and bathrooms; only the two limestone decors ICE PEARL and GREEN PEARL are excluded from use in wet areas.
UltraThin eco+ and ArtDecors Lite are unfortunately not suitable for use in wet areas.
You can use Slate-Lite outdoors without any problems. (with the exception of the ICE PEARL and GREEN PEARL decors)
In most cases, additional protective impregnation or sealing is not necessary outdoors.
Depending on the application location, you can apply an impregnation if required, e.g. our Slate-Lite Special Impregnator or Slate-Lite Protection.
Our sales department will be happy to advise you further.
As with any other wall covering, the substrate of the surface to be treated must also be waterproofed in accordance with applicable DIN standards.
Slate-Lite and Translucent are frost and weather resistant.
Slate-Lite can also be used as a material for modern and high-quality house facades.
For further information on the use as a facade, please refer to the corresponding topic page in our store or contact our sales department directly.

You are welcome to use Slate-Lite in the kitchen. When used as a backsplash, we recommend sealing the stone veneers to protect the surface from heavy soiling and to make it easier to clean.
We recommend our Slate-Lite Extreme Protection.
Please apply 2 coats of this in the kitchen to ensure optimum protection.
Use as a worktop is possible, but is only recommended under certain conditions due to the rough surface of the stones and the extreme loads caused by cutting tools, hot pots/pans etc. If you use Slate-Lite as a work surface, you should always impregnate the material several times with our Slate-Lite Special Protection.
Please note, however, that the pearl protection is a food-safe impregnation and not a sealant. The material does not become cut-resistant through the application of our pearl protection.
We therefore recommend using cutting tools only in conjunction with a cutting board, as otherwise scratches would remain on the surface of the material. Please also always use an appropriate trivet for hot pots/pans.
To make cleaning the material easier, we recommend using flat, smooth decors in this area.
You can also bond Slate-Lite directly over existing tiles if required. Please just make sure that the substrate is clean and that the bonding surface is not damaged.

Vertical installation as a wall is the simplest and most common method.
Floor projects are always carried out at the discretion of the installer, whether indoors or outdoors.
Many successful flooring projects have been completed with Slate-Lite in the past, but we cannot guarantee its use as a floor covering.
When bonding over old tiles, you should fill existing joints beforehand, as otherwise the old joint pattern could show through over time.
As with any other wall covering, the substrate of the surface to be processed must of course also be sealed in accordance with applicable DIN standards.
The UltraThin eco+ product range is expressly excluded from use as a floor covering and also for outdoor use!
You can also use Slate-Lite in the pool area or directly in the pool, both in salt water pools and in chemical pools with chlorinated water.
A complete list of all decors recommended for use in pools can be obtained from our sales department at sales@slate-lite.com (for US: usa@slate-lite.com).
Please note that we do not recommend any protective sealing or impregnation for standing water, as this could lead to color changes.
As with all pool materials, the substrate must also be waterproofed in accordance with DIN standards.
With standing water, it is possible (as with conventional tiles) for white lines and residues to appear at the edge of the water. These can usually be easily removed with a high-pressure cleaner.

Processing
The data sheets and safety data sheets can be found in the description of each product.
There you can download the data sheets and safety data sheets directly as pdf files if required.
The data sheets and processing instructions for the Slate-Lite, UltraThin eco+ and Translucent product ranges are also available for download in the PROCESSING section.
The basic processing of Slate-Lite is carried out in four simple steps:
1) Cut Slate-Lite to size (if necessary)
2) Impregnate or seal depending on the installation location
3) Apply a suitable adhesive to the entire surface of the wall or the back of the stone sheet
4) Position Slate-Lite in the desired location and press into place
Detailed application instructions can be found in our store in the Processing section and in our data sheets.
We also offer regular workshops where you can learn how to use our stone veneers.
Sure, definitely!
Slate-Lite stone veneers can also be laid quickly and easily over old tiles.
This completely eliminates the tedious, dirty and laborious removal of old and unloved tiles and brings you closer to your dream bathroom faster than ever before!
Bonding to old tiles is extremely simple: once the substrate has been properly sealed in accordance with applicable DIN standards, the old tiles simply need to be cleaned to remove dust and grease.
Then apply the Slate-Lite adhesive with a B3 notched trowel and press the stone sheet into place - done!
Note: for horizontal surfaces, old joints must be filled beforehand, otherwise the joint pattern may push through.
(Please note that the amount of adhesive required can be up to 40% higher than usual, as the existing joints must be filled)
In our YouTube video, you can see an example installation showing how easy it is to make old tiles disappear with Slate-Lite: click here
Cutting our thin stone veneers to size is extremely easy, and almost any standard DIY tool is suitable for this:
You can cut Slate-Lite to the required size with millimeter precision using a hand or table saw, jigsaw or multitool.
Simply cut the stone sheet from the back using a wooden or plastic saw blade with medium teeth.
If necessary, then lightly sand the cut edge with sandpaper.
Our UltraThin eco+ product range can even be cut with scissors or a cutter thanks to its cotton underside.
All our stone types (except ICE PEARL and GREEN PEARL) are suitable for use in wet areas such as bathrooms and showers!
Flooring projects are always carried out at the discretion of the installer.

Our protective products are not compatible with each other, so please refrain from combining different impregnations or sealants.
Slate-Lite is intended for permanent installation.
However, if you want to use our real stone decors in a rented apartment and a permanent installation is not possible after consultation with the lessor, we have an installation tip for you here, which can be dismantled if you move out:
Screw a base plate (e.g. wood) to the wall and simply glue the stone veneers to it.
Our thin stone veneers are suitable for almost all substrates!
You can easily bond our stone veneers to these substrates, among others: Concrete, plasterboard, wood, metal, tiles, plaster, glass etc.
No special preparation is required for "stable" substrates: The substrate simply needs to be smooth, dust-free, clean and dry. Crumbling substrates such as old, flaking plaster or wallpaper that is already peeling off must be primed in advance to ensure a permanent bond between the adhesive and the wall.
Excessive unevenness in the substrate must either be treated with a primer or sanded down.
The translucent Translucent stone veneers are processed with our special transparent adhesive Translucent Crystal Clear.
The adhesive is simply applied to the mounting surface or the back of the stone sheet using a smooth spatula.
In principle, any light source behind the stone sheet is possible.
The simplest method for uniform illumination is an LED panel with high light output. However, you can also use fluorescent tubes, light bulbs or LED strips. In this case, a frosted glass pane between the light source and the Translucent decor helps to distribute the light better. A sufficient distance between the light source and Translucent (approx. 6 cm) also ensures optimum light diffusion.
Depending on whether you use warm, cold or colorful RGB light, you can create different lighting moods.
No, we do not sell a complete ETICS package. You can buy the natural stone veneers from us, which you can bond to the mineral substrate reinforced with reinforcing mesh as the final top layer.
The basic structure of the ETICS façade is carried out in accordance with current regulations and standards.
The reinforcing mesh must be located in the upper third of the render layer (executed in accordance with VOB/C[1]ATV-DIN 18350, DIN EN 13914 and DIN 18550), whereby the thickness of the render layer must not be less than 5 mm.
Unevenness must not exceed ± 3 mm so that the adhesive application using a B3 notched trowel provides sufficient adhesion.
Slate-Lite can be simply bonded to the mineral substrate reinforced with reinforcing mesh as a final top layer on a standard ETICS façade.

Almost all Slate-Lite decors are suitable for outdoor use and as a stone façade.
Exceptions to this are our ICE PEARL and GREEN PEARL limestone decors, which are not approved for outdoor and wet areas.
Our sales department will be happy to send you a list of all the decors that you can use for your natural stone façade. Just get in touch with us!
The Slate-Lite cladding is not open to vapor diffusion due to the GRP support of the stone material.
This means that no moisture can penetrate.
Thanks to the 100% natural stone surface, you generally do not need to protect Slate-Lite stone veneers for outdoor use with an impregnation or sealant.
If you require additional protection against snow, salt or rain in addition to the natural properties of the stone surface, we recommend the use of our Slate-Lite Special Protection for outdoor use.
Our standard adhesives for Slate-Lite are temperature resistant up to 90°C (194°F), which is sufficient for most applications around the fireplace.
For special applications with higher temperature requirements, please contact our sales department.
Bonding the Slate-Lite stone veneers is extremely simple:
Simply apply the adhesive to the back of the stone sheet or directly to the mounting surface, press the stone veneers into place - DONE!
In the following video, we show you how to apply our recommended Slate-Lite Extreme Adhesive.
This ready-to-use MS adhesive is simply spread with a B3 notched trowel. Make sure that the adhesive is evenly grooved and do not smooth it out.
Then press the Slate-Lite stone veneer onto the desired area with light and even pressure or a pressure roller and that's it!
To achieve an optimum result, work with a spirit level.
Adhesive residue on the sheet can be removed with our special cleaners.
The stone surface of Slate-Lite can be drilled through with any standard (stone) drill.
Nailing and screwing is also possible without any problems.
Of course, you can also press Slate-Lite onto a variety of different substrates if required. These can include MDF, chipboard, plywood, multiplex, HDF or AluDibond.
We recommend the use of a backing paper of approx. 120 g/m² or another laminate (HPL) to avoid cupping due to the surface tension of the stone layer.
Slate-Lite can be laid butt-to-butt without a joint or with a joint - just the way you like it best!
Work as you would with any normal tile and bond the stone veneers with a tile cross in the desired joint width. Then fill the joint with a natural stone grout. Do not leave masking tape, which you have stuck to the edges to prevent grout from spilling over, on the stone surface for too long and follow the manufacturer's instructions for using the grout and the notes in our data sheet.
In the shower, we recommend laying with a joint instead of butt-to-butt to ensure easier cleaning.
Depending on the installation location, you can use Slate-Lite without additional surface protection, for example in indoor are
as with low levels of stress.
For applications in areas with high loads, such as the kitchen or in the shower and bathroom, we recommend using an additional impregnation or sealant.
This is usually applied to the stone surface with a foam roller in a criss-cross pattern; this can be done before or after installation.
For detailed instructions on the protective products, please refer to the respective data sheets and recommendations in our theme worlds. In the following video we show you an example of the simple application of our strongest sealer Slate-Lite Extreme Protection.
Shipping, delivery & returns
We ship Slate-Lite worldwide!
The only exceptions are certain danger zones and war zones.
If you want to ship to a crisis area, please contact our sales department beforehand.
Our standard format of 122 x 61 cm / 48 x 24 in is sent to you stacked in a flat shipping box.
Depending on the chosen decor, up to 15 sheets fit into one package.
Large formats with 240 x 120 cm / 94.48 x 47.24 in and 280 x 120 cm / 110.23 x 47.24 in are sent on a pallet or rolled.
To do this, we heat the sheet over its entire surface and carefully roll it up. Up to 2 large formats fit into one box.
Please note:
Warm up the rolled large format before unrolling, let it lie flat and lay itself out at the end. Proceed with caution - unrolling too quickly can damage the stone sheet.
Please note that small stone chips do not represent any damage to the material, but are rather a sign of the quality of the genuine natural stone surface:
Despite small stone chips in the package, the Slate-Lite sheet is usually completely undamaged and the stone surface is intact over its entire surface! In addition, slight superficial scratches may occur on the material, which unfortunately cannot be avoided due to storage and transportation. Such light scratches can be easily wiped away with a lint-free cloth and do not constitute damage to the material!
All common transport routes are suitable: sea and air freight as well as courier shipments. As Slate-Lite is very light, it can be shipped worldwide without any problems. For urgent shipments, it is even advisable to send it by courier.
Returns from Slate-Lite are generally possible.
Exception: Remaining stock, special formats and coated goods are excluded from exchange! (see also AGB point 12)
Please note point 12 of our GTC regarding possible returns:
Excerpt AGB 12.

All other freight costs depend on the weight and quantity of the material.
You will see the shipping costs to your destination country calculated in the shopping cart before completing the order. This applies to pallet and parcel shipping.
If you would like a quote from us in advance, please send us a request via the online store and you will receive the corresponding quote by e-mail as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can also send us your request to sales@slate-lite.com. (for US: usa@slate-lite.com)
We always recommend shipping the goods on pallets if you have ordered a very large quantity, as transportation on pallets is safer for larger quantities.
In addition, we generally recommend shipping large formats flat on pallets during the cold winter months (October - Easter), as there is an increased risk of breakage due to the cold temperatures if the material is shipped rolled.
The following material can only be shipped flat on a pallet:
1. material sealed or impregnated by us in advance
2. ArtDecors Lite in large format (240 x 120 cm / 94.48 x 47.24 in)
The price of pallet shipping is based on a daily price basis. We have no fixed conditions here.
Please send daily inquiries directly to sales@slate-lite.com
If the goods have not yet been shipped, we can subsequently change the delivery address and ship to the correct address.
Please note, however, that additional costs may be incurred if the delivery address is very far away (e.g. in another country) from the old delivery address.
If the goods have already been dispatched, it is unfortunately not possible to change the delivery address at a later date. You then have the option of refusing acceptance so that we can pass on the correct delivery address to the shipping company or courier service.
Alternatively, you can also accept the goods at the address and forward them to the correct delivery address yourself.
