We introduce ourselves:
The origin of Slate-Lite goes back to the 90s:
At that time, Gernot Ehrlich was producing table fountains and tables made of regular slate in the USA. The slate panels were glued to MDF panels with epoxy resin.
When removing a broken slate board, Slate-Lite was invented by chance: a wafer-thin layer of slate remained on the glued MDF board.
Gernot Ehrlich immediately saw the potential for an extraordinary product and experimented with different carrier materials until he finally came across today's solution.
The serial production of Slate-Lite did not start until much later:
R&D GmbH has been selling Slate-Lite thin slate in more than 35 countries since 2002.
